Donations, Please

No, not for me.

I'm running as an Independent with Common Sense.

I will not accept any donations to fund my word-of-mouth campaign.

If you feel so strongly about me being the next President of the United States, then make a donation to the nearest animal shelter, woman's shelter, or service organization. (some examples of service organizations would be the American Legion or the Disabled American Veterans) You can dedicate your donation to my write-in campaign, or, better yet, dedicate it to the service of the veteran in your life.

Thank you for stopping by, God bless you all, Wear Red on Fridays, and write in Cary Cartter for President in 2008!

Why Is Cary Cartter Running For President?

I've gotten this question a couple of times, and I had thought that my previous posts were pretty specific. Since this topic covers more than one post, I figured I better recap for those just joining the discussion:

I believe that the United States of America is the greatest country on earth. We got that way not through unlimited military advance and conquer, but through a compassionate structuring of the right thing to do. We have never defeated a country and occupied it; we have always helped to rebuild that which was destroyed after the hostilities were finished. In all fairness, we've paid more money than what was required for the rebuilding.

I am not a politician. I am a working class guy, middle aged, and tired of the way the country is pandering to special interests and the loudest whiners. I have a wife and a brand new baby daughter. I believe that this country will not exist if no one stands up for it. I enjoy the freedoms and the rights that are bestowed upon me as a legal citizen of this country. I don't believe that non-citizens should share those rights. I do not believe that the United States is the root of all evil in the world. I want my daughter to be able to grow up enjoying the same freedoms I have enjoyed, and I want to make sure that this country exists beyond the current decade.

The Global War On Terror: Guess what? If it's going to be a war, then it needs to be fought like a war - without any restrictions of Politically Correct proportions. In a war, people are killed. Some of them may be innocent bystanders - but if they are standing by while those around them are fighting, they aren't so innocent, are they? It is my belief that we can be out of Iraq and Afghanistan within a few weeks - if the Finest Fighting Force in the world is allowed to do it's job. A job, by the way, that it can do quite well without civilian intervention. Civilian oversight is fine, until the boots hit the ground - then the civilians need to get out of the way and let the military do it's job.

I'm going to call a spade a spade here: The "religion" of Islam is not about individual rights, it is about converting everyone to the same way of thinking. Those who do not convert are either killed outright or subjugated to second class citizenship. This is not a religion, this is a cult. It must be stopped, or at least not allowed to spread. I'm not going to get into a big discussion of Christianity vs. Islam - I would just like each person to consider this: In all of history, which religion preaches love, and which religion continues to use violence to gain converts? Which religion stopped being violent when it was obvious that violence turned people away form you, and which religion uses violence to this day? The majority of the followers of Islam are said to be peaceful; but I only know of one or two Muslims that speak out against the violence that has become synonymous with their name.

Career Politicians have ruined the two-party system. Once someone is elected to Congress, they tend to stay there. After a while, they have lost touch with their constituents (when was the last time your "representative" voted the way you would have?) and tend to do what's best for their wallet instead of what's best for the country. This should not be a career choice. Serving your country is your duty, not your vocation. Everyone should serve somehow - either through the military, through representing your neighbors, or through volunteer service to better your nation as a whole.

Pork barrel spending needs to come to a sudden and complete halt. If a local entity (town, city, county, state) thinks it needs a bridge built or a road repaved, then they need to generate the funds from their own taxbase. If a project is of national interest, then and only then should the government be spending any money on the project. Politicians who cater to the people who fund their campaigns are not serving the nation - they are serving their financial backers.

Voter Apathy - actually, I believe this is a myth perpetuated by the MainStream Media. I don't think that Apathy is at work - the majority of the voters in this country really do care, they just feel as if they are being ignored. Voter Despair is more like it. The Career Politicians have raised "hearing the voters" to an art form - but they have lost the science of actually listening to what we are saying.

Taxes. Boy, talk about a touchy subject. The current system is broken. The more money you make, the more options you have of keeping that income away from the taxman. Either a flat tax or a national sales tax should replace the current income tax system. The National Sales Tax would be my choice, and it would be enacted without regard of resale status. By that I mean that all items, when sold, would be taxed at a national rate (on top of any applicable local taxes). If you are buying something to resell later, then you would need to collect tax at the next sales transaction also. This would generate more than enough revenue to keep the government running. There is never a time when no one is buying anything. Everyone, from the richest to the poorest in this country, buys items they need. The more money you have, the more items you buy - and the more taxes you pay. The less money you have, the fewer items you buy - and the less taxes you pay.

Big Government: I am a big fan of Ronald Reagan's model - less governmental intrusion into the lives of the citizens. I believe that the less the government is involved in your life, the more you will be able to do with your life.

Political Correctness: This is just another way of crying to your Mommy that Johnny called you a name. Starting as soon as children are able to understand the concepts, they should be taught that there are winners and there are losers. Anytime two entities come together, one will leave the encounter with more than the other. This is true from a playground game of marbles to a discussion of your raise with your boss. If you teach a child that everyone is a winner, they will be sorely disappointed the first time they apply for a position that two hundred and fifty seven other applicants want. Along the same lines, no one is guaranteed an offense-less life. While we have the right to say or do anything that is not illegal, along with that right comes the responsibility to act in a civil manner. Act responsibly, be responsible for your actions. This includes how you raise your children and what kind of an example you set for them. Please do not confuse RIGHTS with PRIVILEGES. Without rights, you would have no privileges. Without privileges, you would be a slave.

Immigration: Another touchy subject. I've been letting my representatives know that allowing federal criminals (those who enter this country without the courtesy of checking in first) to remain here and "earn" their way to citizenship is not productive. My "representative" (his name rhymes with "pastor" - oh no, wait - that is his name) claims that allowing these criminals to reap the rewards of citizenship without penalty is the only way to allow them to really appreciate what they are being given. I say that's like letting a car thief keep the car and not serve any time. Strict enforcement of the existing laws on legal employment will remove the incentive of cheap labor; increasing the penalties of business owners who allow illegals to be hired in the first place will remove the incentive of looking the other way. I figure a fine of $50,000.00 and one year in jail for the CEO for the first offense, with a ten percent increase for each violation after that should do the trick.

Welfare should be a hand up, not a hand out. For those unwilling to help themselves, there should not be a constant flow of money. For those not willing to contribute to society, there should not be incentive to continue failing. However, if you fall on hard times, society as a whole should be able to help you - and if you are needing help all the time, then see the first part of this paragraph.

Social Security: Simple rule, really - if you have not legally paid into the system, then you don't collect. (I also have a simple revamp to ensure adequate funding for perpetuity - take members of Congress off their private retirement and put them on Social Security. Watch how fast they get their hands out of the cookie jar.) Either that, or return all monies paid in to the owners - and allow them to set up their own private retirement funds. If they don't set up their own funds, then it's their private loss, not a national problem. See "Welfare" above.

Now, as I said, I am not a politician. If there are any special interest groups out there who are feeling slighted because I have not attacked them, please let me know. I'm sure we can find an area where We the People would beg to differ in how you are doing your job.

This country was founded on equality - not "I'm equal to you" but "You are equal to me" - think about the subtle difference there. Not, "I lift myself to your station" but "I lift you to my station."

One campaign promise I will hold to - if elected, I will only serve one term.

Almost forgot - ACLU, you would be number one on my hit parade. The public feeding trough would be shut down through legislation I would introduce - or have introduced. Any organization that holds one group's "Freedom of Expression" to be more important than another group's needs to have it's doors closed.

How To Write Me In

When you write in a candidate's name, it must be the same on each write-in, or the votes will not be counted correctly.

In my case, there will be the inevitable confusion: "How many 'T's are there in Cartter?"

In my family, there are two.

So, in order for your vote to be counted correctly, you need to write in Cary Cartter on your 2008 general election ballot.

Write In Cary Cartter for President 2008 - pt. 6

Make A Difference - Vote for Common Sense. Write In Cary Cartter for President 2008

What do you think of the slogan? Sues helped me flesh that one out a bit. She is quite the dynamo, having already scheduled me - well, mentioned that perhaps I should make an appearance - at the Glendale Chocolate Affaire on February 3rd.

Career Politician should not be a job description. Every citizen has the right and the duty to serve this country – either through military service, volunteer service for the good of the nation, or through the position of statesman. Representing your neighbors should be the goal of holding a political office, not securing your place in history.

Over on Mac's blog, he has created a nifty little banner/campaign logo that he has in his sidebar. Hey, Mac, may I use that? I like it. I'd like to see it on quite a few blogs, to help keep my name out there...

Out of Voting Choices?

I think I need to get a higher profile.

On a lot of the blogs I visit (admittedly, they are mostly conservative in nature, or more accurately non-liberal) the general consensus seems to be that we need a leader of this country with the mantra America First.

Like me.

A leader who won't let illegal immigrants of any stripe "work" their way towards citizenship.

Like me.

A leader who will make sure that the interests of the United States are first and foremost when any kind of discussions are held.

Like me.

A leader who cannot be connected to any Big industry due to not having a controlling interest in any of the Big industries.

Like me.

A leader who understands what the working man is going through from the perspective of the working man, and not the working man's boss.

Like me.

A leader with the backbone to do the right thing, and let the people assigned to doing the parts of the right thing actually do what they are trained to do, whether it is foreign policy or commanding troops on the ground.

Like me.

I believe that a leader should be like a good boss – put the people who work for you in the position they can best perform, and then get out of their way and let them do their job. Throwing money at a problem does no good at all, unless the money is allowed to perform as trained. Telling your investors you are going to do one thing and then not letting your money be invested as it should is a waste of money. Advertising something and then not honoring the advertisement is not good business.

Standing up for what you believe in is paramount when it comes to leading a country. Let the people of that country know what you believe in, show them that you stand up for that belief, and you will have the backing of that people.

I'm running a no-cost write-in campaign. I am not soliciting donations, I am not asking people to advertise for me. I am asking to help me spread the word that there is someone who can be written in for President who will not be a career politician, and will keep We The People as the primary focus.

Please, write in Cary Cartter for President in 2008. The career politicians need to know that the United States is tired of not being listened to.

Slight update - since I am a "write-in" candidate, I don't need to formally file to appear on the ballots in each state. So, I won't be doing that. Did I mention how much I love filling out government forms?

Running "Scared"

This over at Texas Fred's is a good example for two things.

First, Hillary announcing her candidacy is kind of wasted breath - the history of the Clintons should come back and bite them on the rear.

Second, why I wanted Fred as my Press Secretary - he knows things. Since he likes to - uhm, do defensive things, he has instead requested the position of SecDef. I think that's a good match.

So, I've asked Paul (prying1) to be my Press Sec instead.

Sues has graciously volunteered to be my campaign manager.

If anyone else wants to help get my name in front of the people who matter (hint - it's the ones who vote, and not the ones who make a living from the political workings of the country), please feel free to mention me. Often.

I can't promise you anything but a Common Sense Approach to running this country, by a citizen, instead of a career politician.

Thus Starts The Campaign

Well.

According to the FEC, once I declare myself a candidate for the office of President of the United States, I have to start tracking my expenditures. Once I reach $5,000.00 (USD) I have to start filing reports.

Guess what?

I'm not spending a dime.

And I don't want anyone to spend a dime on my behalf, either.

I do want you to help me spread the word. My name will not appear on the primary or main election ballot unless it is written in. They all need to be written in exactly the same way: "Cary Cartter" (without the quotes).

If you are the author of a "free" blog, then please blog about me, tell everyone you know about me, and help me get the word out. If you pay for any aspect of your blog, then don't blog about me - just tell everyone you meet to write me in.

But, Cary, aren't you serious about running for President?

Yes, I am. But I am a working stiff, like 80% of the people in this nation. I can't afford to spend millions of dollars on a campaign, since I have no funds of my own and I am not going to be indebted to any special interests. I intend to get this country back on track to being the leader of the free world, and I can't do that if I have to give homage to Joe's Bar and Grill every time I speak or consider legislation.

What do you really think your chances are?

A little better than a snowball's in hell. If I even get enough mentions and a few papers report on the "crazy dude in Phoenix", maybe I can get a politician to understand that We, the People, are fed up with the constant crap. Repesentatives should not be career politicians, they should serve the country out of duty and then go home. They should not be spending fifty+ years in the same seat handing sweetheart pork deals to the same network of good ol' boys. They should serve, do what's right for all the people, and step down. (Yes, I advocate term limits.) Someone like Strom Thurmond should never be allowed to rule for as long as he did. Common Sense should prevail, not Political Correctness.

If you have any questions about why I am doing this, or what my intentions are, just drop a line in the comments, or e-mail me: carycartter AT gmail DOT com. I will answer all inquiries here, and your question will be quoted. You will also be credited, and a link will be provided.

For A Common Sense Approach

Remember, in 2008 vote for Cary Cartter.

I promise a common sense approach to running this country - and ONLY this country. I will not allow any other country, or even the loudest public opinion, to determine the course of action this country needs to take to regain the respect and admiration of the world. Heck, we are the strongest standing military - we will start acting like it again.

The phrase "Kick Butt and Take Names" will have substance once again.

No other country will even dream of trying to invade, either by military or civilian methods; they will be repulsed at the border.

In other news - I will need to file in each state, so that may take a few days. Watch your ballots carefully - I will be listed as Cary Cartter - Common Sense Independent.

Cary Cartter for President

Write me in, folks. I'll have the papers filed shortly.

This is the post that led to this decision. It's on Jenn's blog, and there is some language involved.

I can hear you wondering, "Cary, what do you know about running the country?"

I know enough not to let armed invaders get away without some ventilated clothing.

I know enough not to let non-citizens claim rights under our constitution.

I know enough not to allow illegal immigrants to benefit from the hard work of the American citizens and legal immigrants.

I know enough to actually assign jobs to people trained in the area, and then get the h3ll out of their way while they do the job to the best of their ability.

I know enough that unless this country gets a leader with the intestinal fortitude to actually lead this country instead of letting other country's public opinion dictate the leaders' actions, this country won't exist for very long.

Mr. Bush, with all respect due to the office you are holding, you aren't doing the job I voted for you to do. Get your act together. When I take office, I will need to get a lot done real quick, and I would rather not have to un-do everything you've done.

Cabinet and support staff position candidates, please leave a comment briefly outlining your beliefs and abilities. My press secretary will be Texas Fred - because he won't put up with any crap - from the MSM or from me. All other positions (with the exceptions of First Lady, First Daughter, and First Dogs/Cats) are open.

Don't worry, Liberals will have a place in my administration also - after all, without bad examples, the rest of the country would have to make the same mistakes they did.

I promise to look after THIS country's best interests first. Yes, there will be some hard rows ahead, but what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger.

I will post my dirty secrets here, so there won't be any "shocking discoveries" made later.

Thank you for stopping by, God bless you all, Wear Red on Fridays, support the Freedom Project, and write in Cary Cartter for President in 2008!

While We Were Sleeping...

TexasFred has an interesting little tidbit about a sortie from Mexico testing our defenses.

So, we have to follow the same stupid Rules of Engagement that we are following in the Middle East (the ROEs that are getting our troops killed, becasue they have to balance the political ramifications against the physical safety of anyone downrange), and the same stupid ROEs that got 242 fine young men killed in Beirut (you can carry your weapons, but you can't have any ammo because that might offend the ones we are here to work with)?

What a crock of kimchi that is.

The border of the United States is being threatened. It may be time to either form a Militia, or go "freedom fighter" in the streets. If we go FF, then the libs will understand us and support our cause. If we go Militia, then we will get a government by the people, for the people once again.

Personally, I don't have a preference. I took an oath to defend this country against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and if the leaders are allowing this type of attack across our borders against our own troops, then the leaders have become domestic enemies. Perhaps they need to be replaced first.

I have been told that as a Christian, I should be very strong and concerned about the spiritual salvation of those around me. Without the freedoms we have in this country, there would be no way to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ without reprisal. I am not ashamed of the Gospel; I am not afraid to die in service for my Lord; I would want to be sure that I did not allow this country to slip into a position where no one could share the Gospel or bring the Good News to anyone at anytime. And I certainly don't want to be the one who looks the other way while the country is sold down the river while the legal citizens are kept in the dark about what the "leaders" are truly doing.

Wake up, America.

Oh, by the way -

Happy New Year!

First Things First Dept.:

The results of the Great Big Wonderful Baby Pool Contest are in. Using my amazing spreadsheet skills, I was able to determine the winner and make transfer arrangements within a few hours of MEG's birth (12/30/06 at 1442 MST).

Drumroll, please:

prying1 came in second, with a guess (12/31/06 at 0700 MST) that missed by 16 hours and 18 minutes, winning the consolation prize of 184 BlogMad credits.

Jarhead John, with a winning guess (12/30/06 at 1800 MST) that was off by a mere 3 hours and 18 minutes, wins the grand prize of 836 BlogMad credits.

Congratulations to you both, and please make your accounts ready for an infusion of BlogMad credits!

While the turnout for the contest was light, I want to thank everyone who helped me keep it in front of the masses (my Blogroll on the left is the thank you list, most of them mentioned me at least once during this contest) but especially Paul, at BlogMad, for putting it up as a banner that alternated in with other messages.

Now, it's really late and I have to go to work instead of hang out with TMBWitW and our new daughter tomorrow morning. I praise God for having a job to go to, and I look forward to being able to do it in order to support my newly expanded family.

Thank you for stopping by, God bless you all, Wear Red on Fridays, and support the Freedom Project!
