Red Friday

Joe Rosenthal

Time Inc.

Today I am seeing red. (besides wearing it!)

If you listened to the show, you know why. If not, check back here later when I have the time to complete the post.

All I can say is - with the right of Freedom of Expression comes the Responsibility of What You Say.

For now, check this at Gawfer's Blog. And this Texas Fred's. And this, also at Texas Fred's. For another entry, see here at American Thinker (Thanks, Loon!). Loon has a word here.

Article here.

UPDATE:

OK, I have time now. I've also spoken with several friends. And I have cooled off a bit and evened my keel.

Dear Time Magazine:
First, let me reassure you that I fully support your right to free speech, and I will defend to the death your right to make a complete and total ass out of yourself. Looks like you've accomplished that with your planned cover for the April 21, 2008 issue.

For shame, Time. You, of all institutes, should have realized that you were messing with something much more important than life and death. You have taken on the collective memories and history of the United States Marine Corps in general, World War II veterans specifically, and Ira Hayes, Mike Stranko, Franklin Sousley, Rene Gagnon, Harlon Block, and John Bradley exactly.

What would induce you to think that the American public (other than left leaning, liberal, global warming-panic-stewards) would see this as an acceptable use of this icon? "Global warming" is an unproven MYTH of enormous proportions inflated to emergency status by the myopic and stunted memory of people who forget that weather cycles are just that - CYCLES - and everything will balance out in the end. Using the photograph of the flag-raising on Mt. Surabachi to further the falsified claims that we, as mere humans, can affect something on a global scale is pure hogwash.

If I were a subscriber, I would cancel my subscription. Since I'm not, I will be boycotting your company and everything you touch. Even if you withdraw this cover and apologize, I will make sure not to give you another red cent of my hard earned dollars for the crap you have tried to foist on the people of the world.

Sincerely,

Cary B. Cartter

Plain Old Thursday

No linky-love today, sorry. Do be a dear and check out the blogrolls, though.

I'm Thinking of the "O" Word on BlogTalkRadio tomorrow morning - I'll be discussing Arizona's Proposition 100, Arizona's leading anti-DUI efforts, some driving tips, and possibly equal time for the cats. - 0700 Pacific, 1000 Eastern. Call in number is (347) 838-9573. I dare you to call in.

I double dare you.

I better get going - TMBWitW's benefits company wants proof that the dependents she is claiming are really hers - so I have to find the marriage license. Anyone seen it lately? I have no idea which file to check first...

Time Flies, part 2

Here it is Tuesday, and I missed posting on Monday.

Sorry 'bout that. MEG comes first.

OK - I enjoy watching Carl Edwards doing backflips. Especially when they vindicate murmurs of winning by skirting the rules. He just plain out-drove the field at Texas, didn't he?

Friday's show - this one coming up - will be covering Arizona's Proposition 100, and the groups who are lined up to sue against it. Since last week I talked about the dogs, the cats are demanding equal airtime. Figures.

So - how was your weekend?

Friday, the block fence was completed, and Monday the gate was installed. Pretty nice gate, too - a four foot gate for personnel, and a 6'6" additional gate that opens wider for vehicle access. Now, the trailer is easier to stow.

Wearing my Lightning Sharp today. Are YOU wearing red?

Second show is complete: listen to it and rate it here! I'm getting the hang of this talk-radio thing. I'm also learning very quickly to have a good stock of subjects ready to go.

For those of you who listen: The wall is coming along nicely, thank you.

Monday Bits and Pieces

(h/t to Texas Fred) The Army has notified the family of Matt Maupin of Ohio that they have ID'd his remains. The thoughts and prayers of a grateful nation are with the Maupin family during their time of loss.

My first BlogTalkRadio show was Friday morning - talk about a learning curve! Many, many thanks to the Loon for her immeasurable support and help.

A package arrived from Hammacher/Shlemmer on Friday morning. It is a slide-and-negative-to-digital scanner, which will allow me to first transfer all of my grandfather's slides to digital for safekeeping (without paying an outrageous amount of money for someone to do it for me) and second to start offering the same service to others, without charging an outrageous amount of money to do it.

Here in the "office" where the computer is, I have built storage shelves for my model railroading collection and my wife's craft supplies. The cats have discovered that if they climb up, in, and around the various boxes and stored items that we can't get to them to remove them from the room when we leave. That allows us to instead find the little gifts they leave behind. Ah, the joys of sharing a house with cats.

Sticky Post - News

(You know the drill - scroll down for new posts. No, really - there are newer posts under this one. Don't always go by the date, OK? Gosh. Just scroll down already.)

I will be on BlogTalkRadio starting Friday morning - since I am at home during the day, and MEG doesn't (usually) get up until 8:00 or so, I have scheduled a show to start at 0700 MST - which is 0700 PDT, 0800 MDT, 0900 CDT, and 1000 EDT. If you are farther east or west than that, please adjust accordingly. The name of the show is "I'm Thinking of the "O" Word" - pretty original, eh?

The show can be accessed at http://blogtalkradio.com/carycartter. Tune in on this Red Friday to listen, or call in at (347) 838-9573. The show will start out as a general talk type show, and I am willing to follow the topic just about anywhere. Same rules apply there as here - Keep it Clean, or I Will.

I look forward to hearing from all of you. In the meantime, go on over to BTR and see who else you might know.

Thursday -not a roundup

Sorry.

Both girls are sick, and down for the count. I'm updating my reading of my favorite blogs (the list is to the left, a little below this post ... a little further ... under "Blogroll", see it?) and I humbly request you visit these fine bloggers. Leave comments where appropriate. Let them know I said "hi" unless you can see that I've been there today, by the comments I left...

Remember, my pilot BlogTalkRadio show tomorrow - don't know where it'll go, but I'm pretty sure one of the topics will be the uncommon virtue of common sense.

Not that I preach on that here enough, or anything...

I've also found out recently (more like, been re-informed) that the use of ellipses is considered a grammatic faux pas ... oh well ...

My Day, and Welcome To It

For some reason, MEG has decided to start getting up earlier. That might tweak the show schedule. Maybe I'll start keeping her up a little later...

This morning, we had a great time. Breakfast, and playing, and chasing the dogs. MEG wanted to go outside and play in the back yard. No problem, right?

Well ... remember the dogs mentioned earlier?

Yeah. They had all weekend to hide their own "Easter Eggs" and one of them likes to kind of kick the gravel over her gifts, hiding them pretty well.

So, I'm out there trying to get the yard apples picked up before MEG can get to them. You see, she likes to "help" daddy by picking them up too. Of course, she doesn't have a scoop or anything... so daddy has to move pretty darn quick, I don't mind telling you. Didn't move quite quick enough on one of the hidden ones - however, I did catch her hand before she moved it very far away from the site - enough to get it cleaned off with a wipe, and then washed real good.

Don't tell TMBWitW, okay? She gets a little worried about things like that...

Now, MEG is down for the nap, I've been through the BTR training, and I'm chatting with a friend in Yahoo while posting this and listening to K-LOVE on the internet. I think I'll go watch the DVR of New Amsterdam from last night. Good series. If you don't get it on your service, try checking out Hulu, a new site that has a bunch of shows archived with limited commercials.

Life is good.
